Calhoun is a Commission / City Manager form of government. There are 5 City Commissioners and they hire the City Manager. The Manager reports to the entire Commission. The City Manager is responsible for all other city employees. This includes the City Recorder, the Chief of Police, the Maintenance Manager, and the Library Director. The rules of the City of Calhoun can be more strict than the rules of the State but the City rules cannot be in conflict with State law. Any citation issued which is a breach of a State law automatically is heard in a State sanctioned court in the county seat of Athens. If you have been involved in a citation where you had property impounded, you should contact the police department directly at 336-3930 to inquire about the disposition of that property.
